Many parents who consider a car seat to be a very good place for a new born to take a quick nap should think again. A recent study has revealed that this could have adverse effect on a kid’s health as it could reduce the oxygen levels by almost 20 percent of all newborns.

Car seats are primarily safety gears and you cannot take your kid home from a hospital without one. The problem with them is that the kid needs to be placed upright and this could lead to breathing problems while the baby is sleeping. The reason for this is that these seats compress the chest resulting in decrease of the size of the airway which is a major reason for lower levels of oxygen in blood.

It is natural for parents to wish that the infant finds some sleep, but they should ensure that they do not use a car bed for the kid to sleep in. It has been found that the early days of a kid is the time when parents are most desperate to find a perfect place for their kid to sleep.

This study was conducted on 200 healthy infants by putting them in cribs and in car seats. It was found that the kids sleeping in the car seats had considerably low levels of oxygen. Consequently, it has been established that sleeping in a car seat could be very harmful for a kid. However, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use a car bed while traveling. Just ensure you don’t let your kid sleep in it.

We all associate snoring with elderly people but surprisingly the phenomenon has also become quite common among kids. Cold, allergy seasons, clogged sinuses and overtiredness are some of the reasons that lead to occasional snoring in children. Parents need not get worried about the snoring of their kids unless it becomes regular because regular snoring in children is indicative of obstructive sleep apnea.

Such disorder is mostly seen in kids between the ages of 3 and 5 years. However, there have been some reports that suggest that it can also occur in babies who are less than a year old. The inflated tonsils and adenoids obstruct the breathing of the kids while they sleep.

Apart from loud snoring, restless sleep and regular breathing through the mouth are some of the signs that show that your child might be suffering from disruptive sleep apnea. Children with such a disorder find it very hard to get a good night’s sleep and hence feel tired and irritable throughout the day. It is important for you to get in touch with a pediatrician if you feel your kid has this sleep disorder.

Your child then has to go through a sleep study done in a children’s hospital or by an ENT specialist. If the problem does exist a surgery follows, which would take care of the adenoids and big tonsils. The best part is that the surgical procedure has a very high percentage of success. There are also some other procedures besides the surgery but they have longer recovery period.

It is very important for parents to make sure that their babies sleep properly at night as it can keep away many health related issues which may become alarming during the childhood as well as in the later part of their babies’ lives. All parents have an inherent desire to keep their babies healthy and happy. Inculcating the habit of sleeping through the night can be quite challenging for most parents. However, parents must understand that establishing healthy sleep habits in their children ensures that children remain safe and happy throughout their lives.

Lack of a good slumber, can result in several health related issues in your baby, one of them is obesity. The findings of many studies and researches have proved that there is a definite relation between sleep deprivation in children and obesity. The less sleep a child gets more is the chances of it gaining weight. Sleep deprivation can also cause extreme emotional effects in babies which are marked by high levels of anxiety and aggression. Some of the other emotional issues experienced by babies include depression, irritability and temper tantrums.

Lack of adequate sleep can also cause certain behavioural issues in babies. Behavioural issues like hyperactivity, poor impulse control, poor focus and a drop in the IQ are all a result of sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can also suppress the immune system and create poor sleep habits in your children which are very hard to break. So, as a responsible parent, it is your duty to ensure that your child has adequate amount of sleep every night. You can show you are proactive by learning different ways of getting your baby to sleep through the night.

Sleeping with one’s own baby can be the most comforting experience. In the past people used to sleep with their babies. But now, in modern times, this culture is not being followed any more.

If you analyze the concept of a mother sleeping with her baby, you can find many advantages. One such advantage is that the baby gets more time to sleep. The same goes with the mother. It also becomes easy for the mother to breastfeed the baby.

Certain physicians also say that keeping the baby near while sleeping can protect the baby from suffering from the SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Whereas, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, many infants die because of sleeping with their parents. However, such claims by CPSC doesn’t point us how the parents were responsible for such deaths of their baby.

The point is that, if a mother wants to sleep with her baby, she should take proper precautions. Parents must take care of the place where they sleep with the baby. The bed should be clean, firm and flat. The dressing of the baby should also be taken care of. The blanket that is used to cover the baby should be light. In addition, parents should not sleep with their baby if they are under medication or drugs, have drunk alcohol, is a smoker or feeling tired.

Hence, sleeping with the baby is the parent’s own choice. While doing so, full care and proper precautions should be taken as it is beneficial for both the parent and the baby.

Then, the only solution you can try is to form bedtime routines for your kids to develop their sleeping habits. Researches have proved that following a consistent bedtime routine helps improving infants’ and toddlers’ sleep patterns.

Mothers who try to carry out a regular bedtime routine are always seen happy after a few days when they teach their babies to sleep on a particular time. On the other hand, mothers who don’t take pains to form these bedtime routines often take pains of sleepless nights for a longer time.

One of the best ways to form bedtime routines for babies is to form a daily sleep dairy for one week to notice how long your child sleeps and how long does he or she takes to fall asleep. Watching these sleeping behaviors, mothers can tend it the way they want to have comfortable nights with their babies.

It’s common that parents of newly borns often complain of lack of sleep but this problem continues for sometime, as the babies have their own different biological clock and parents need to match themselves to it. Some babies have a tendency to keep their parents awake with them at night. It takes time to set the baby’s sleeping pattern during day and night.

The first mistake that parents do for making their baby sleep is rocking them, this way the baby get habitual and expect rocking before sleeping. So, in order to cultivate a sleeping habit in babies independently, make sure not to let your baby sleep in your arms. Instead, teach the baby to sleep on bed. However, make sure that the baby is not deprived of the motherly touch.

Set a daily sleeping routine for your baby and teach the baby to sleep on that particular time every day and every night. Soon, the baby will learn and adapt himself to sleep on his own on that time. This tip can be followed when the baby is around 6 months old. Try to make the baby sleep on his back to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Also, make sure to put aside baby’s soft toys, blankets and other things when the baby sleeps. This way you won’t have to worry for the safety of your baby while he sleeps on his own.
