Diarrhea in babies certainly becomes a major reason for worry for most parents. There is a major chance that babies may suffer from dehydration and have painful diaper rash. Thus, it is important on the part of parents to see what their babies is actually eating because there are some food which can help stop diarrhea while there are some which can aggravate it. Besides, it is always advisable to consult your doctor first.

Diarrhea in babies is caused mainly because of infection with the rotavirus, which can take anywhere between 3 to 9 days to resolve. Food sensitivities, medications and functional bowel disorder are some of the other usual causes that lead to diarrhea in infants. Parents should make sure to include infant rice cereal, dry toast, bananas, cooked carrots and pasta in their baby’s food. baby_cereal

Babies suffering from diarrhea should also get a good amount of white grape juice, cooked white potato and applesauce in their diet. In such a situation, parents should focus on giving a little amount of food to their babies at a time but also ensure to feed them frequently. This helps in the digestion as babies have small intestine which works very slowly.

Breastfeeding also helps hasten the recovery of the baby; however it is important that you do not consume coffee or cola which can pass through your milk and worsen your baby’s diarrhea. Food which contains Lactobacillus bacteria and acidophilus supplements also helps a great deal in stopping diarrhea in babies. Apple juice, cherry juice, fruits like pears, plums, and peaches can aggravate diarrhea in the infants and hence should be avoided.
