The sight of children arguing with their parents has become common nowadays. You can come across children involved in arguments with their parents in grocery stores, banks, malls and just about anywhere. This may force you to think that unlike old days, the resistance from the kids has become more now and there is also less respect and discipline compared to those days. However, the reason for this evident change lies entirely with the weakening parenting values.

The strategies of the parents are not action oriented anymore and they give into the demands of their children very easily. Parents today permit their children to make their own decisions and allow more space for feedback and discussions. Consequently, children have learnt not to compromise and have become more decisive. Parents though must ensure that the issues that are dealt with should be in the territory of competency of the child. Children should be given the freedom to make their own choices so that they develop their decision making abilities. DivAndKids_Beg_328x183

The important thing for parents to keep in mind is that these choices should require only child-level competencies. Parents should exercise their authority on certain areas and should shut all the doors of negotiation. The negotiations, as the children grow old take the shape of arguments which only tend to increase. So parents must identify areas where they feel that it is their turf and all decisions regarding it must be made by them. Doing so will not only make your child disciplined, but also ensure that you are less involved in any arguments with them in future.
