Diabetic patients and especially those who also are pregnant have seen to undergo cesarean quite often. This ratio is so much so that 30 years of reports have proved 85.9% diabetic patients who are expecting babies have undergone cesarean and in comparison to that only 37.8% of the non-diabetic moms have got cesarean. This ratio has definitely led some group of people to think and worry as to why is this happening and is there any scientific and medical reason behind this behavior.
Though no significant reason behind the growing and higher cesarean rate in the diabetic patients have been found till now but it has been doubted that lack of calcium in the body of the diabetic patient is causing it. It is the lesser rate of calcium in the boy of the diabetic expectant mothers that makes them suffer from more of labor pains and that ultimately perhaps tends the physicians to do cesarean.
One more thing that increases the labor of the mother is the size of the baby. Women who have gestational diabetes generally give birth to bigger babies and this is known as LGA or large for gestational age newborns. To get the mother relief from this labor and not to make the situation complicated anymore cesarean is being conducted.
As the lack of calcium in the uterus of the diabetic women is itself a risky matter, cesarean of such patients definitely is a case of great risk.
