Striking the right chord may get very difficult when it comes to your stepchildren. It requires a strong heart and a lot of maturity on your part to establish a bond with your stepchildren. Step parenting though complicated at times can be very positive and enjoyable experience. There are chances that as a stepparent, you may not have the final authority on the decisions pertaining to your stepchild. This should not in any way deter you to express your opinion on major decisions.

The role of a stepmother is to provide the much needed support for her husband needs when it comes to making decisions involving the stepkids. You should be able to show the solidarity that exists between you and your husband to find the trust of your stepchildren. As a stepparent, you have the responsibility but you can force your will and use your powers on your stepkids. So, it is advisable that you allow your husband to take on the responsibilities. This step of yours also goes a long way in maintaining your sanity and relationship with your stepchildren.

It also helps if you have set your boundaries on matters that you can interfere. However, you must voice yourself out when you feel that something is not right. It requires great care on your part not to mention anything negative about the parents of your stepkids even when they are cranky with them. The reason being your stepchildren may use your casual remarks to create an unwanted situation. You should avoid being nosy and take initiatives to bond with your step children.
